e-mango Xmas do, 2005
Sunday, 04 December 2005
James
We shrunk the James
A night of revellery was had by all. In other words, everyone got wasted, apart from those driving.

Click for Photo's of Gild House Xmas party. The food at Bistro on the Beach was excellent as usual. The entertainment was fun, although spoilt by some shoddy break dancing!

Did not manage to leave the flat the next day as I was trying to gently recover. Too much champagne, red wine, white wine, beer and Japanese green tea.

If you missed all the Fong related dancing shenannigans you can see it here: Gordon Fong makes arse of himself, but doesn't really care is it only happens once a year at Xmas and everyone expects it. The world needs a Chinese David Brent.

Give Google Earth a try, if you have a PC...
Friday, 02 December 2005
Unfortunately it does work on my Mac OS X laptop as it is only for Windows at the moment, so I can still use it at home.

With Google Earth you get the capability to photgraphically navigate the earth and zoom right in. Although some places have higher resolutions than others, especially when you are trying to look at bombholes in Iraq!

Back at Birmingham University Karate Club
Sunday, 20 November 2005
Gordon Fong and Ken Hassell. Karate.
Ken Hassell
I went back to Birmingham University as my good friend and instructor, Ken Hassell, was holding a course with Frank Cope and John Barnes. It was an excellent course, despite the freezing cold conditions. In and outside of the dojo.

Nice to be back in the old place where I spent probably too much time training and ended up a crap degree.

I even got the chance to teach on the Sunday morning session. Us Old Boys do have our uses after all.

Course photos with Ken Hassell, Frank Cope and John Barnes.

Why does everyone look so bloody young at uni!

New albums to listen to
Saturday, 12 November 2005
A busy weekend of listening to my new shipment from Amazon.

Paul Weller: As Is Now - I liked his last one which was an album of covers but now he has returned from his songwriting break with a punchy and rocking affair.

Texas: Red Book - I thought their last few studio albums were a bit luke warm as I much prefer their Southside and Rick's Road albums. This one though does hit the spot for me. The collaboration with Paul Buchannan from the Blue Nile is great as well.

Nine Horses (David Sylvian collaboration): Snow Borne Sorne - As with Texas, his last couple of albums were not as easily accessible but this definitely brings him back to the fore. A much fuller album lyrically and sonically.

The Observer seem to like it and have awarded it 5 stars.

Gild House: Serviced office space for rent in Bournemouth
Tuesday, 08 November 2005
Gild House offices for rentThe building where I am working will shortly have serviced office spaces being made available  for renting. The whole block has many techonology and Internet based companies working there and is getting to be a small hotbed of innovative IT businesses in Bournemouth.

There will be a mixture of small and medium sized rooms. Internet connectivity should be easily accessible through wireless gateways.

Gild House is on Norwich Avenue West which isn't too far a walk into town or Westbourne and is a minute or two's drive from the Wessex Way. So, very handy in many respects.

Prague visit

Budweiser
Couple of large ones in Prague
Just got back from visiting Prague which was brilliant. Apart from the graffiti on some walls, the buildings and architecture were both magnificent and beautiful. Feet are now aching with all the walking about although the tram system was cheap enough to skoot around the place.

The food and drink were very good and excellent value, if you didn't drink in Irish/English bars. Kathryn did have to have her cider fix for the day!

I'd really recommend the place and I loved the dark beer. Fantastic.

Review to come when I get some time.

A visit to Mr Lynch in Jesmond, Newcastle.
Monday, 24 October 2005
This is me mate Duncan's next bar that has just opened recently in Jesmond. I thought I would drop in seeing as he was getting the drinks in all night. You don't have to be up-yourself to drink here. Cool hangout for people to take in a few beers and listen to the live band playing jazz-funk or some tunes by the DJ.

Decor is retro-chic with chairs, settees, lampshades and brik-brak dating all the way back to the 70's and 80's. I even saw one of the brown spiky clocks that used to adorn our house.

Cream: reunited and playing at the Albert Hall
Friday, 14 October 2005
Cream DVDManaged to catch the last part of their reunion concert. I am going to have to get the DVD so I can watch it all from start to finish. Form what I saw, Clapton, Baker and Bruce were on top form. it also shows that drugs and alcohol can take their effect on your looks. Clapton looks the freshest and healthiest of them all.

Never too sure on drum solos but what the heck, 30-odd years since the last time they played, we'll let them off.

The Apprentice USA, final episode
Thursday, 06 October 2005
Did you see it last night? How awkward was it for that Jennifer to squirm for an hour whilst it seeemed as if the whole place was rooting-tooting for Kelly. At one point she couldn't sink into her seat any further. That was tough. I didn't want her to win but it was a bit much to endure that!
