Bournemouth Karate Club (Wado Ryu), Dorset.
Based in Bournemouth our aim is to teach traditional Wado
Ryu karate under the guidance of the Wado
Academy (UK) and its Chief Instructor Sensei
Masafumi Shiomitsu, 9th Dan Hanshi. The association is
directly linked to Hironori Ohtsuka II, the current head of
Wado Ryu Karate-Do Renmei
and son of the original founder.
Wado-Ryu karate is a Japanese Martial Art based upon a unique
blend of Japanese Jujutsu, elements of Okinawan Karate and
principles drawn from older schools of swordsmanship or kenjutsu.

is welcome to train and we frequently have occassional guests
from around the UK and rest of the world turning up because
they found the site via the Internet.
If you are looking to train in karate for fitness and improving
your confidence then why not give us a try. Beginners are
very welcome and can try a session out, all you need to come
along is some tracksuit/jogging bottoms and a t-shirt. We
are a small club and can provide a friendly environment to
start your training.
However, if you are purely looking to get a black belt within
a couple of years, then this may not be suited to you as you
would be better off going to a shop and buying one. This is
an on-going process as any karate training should be and it
is only through continual effort and study that you will reap
the physical and personal benefits. There are many styles
of karate of which Wado Ryu is just one. In the Bournemouth
and Poole area there are many good clubs for karate, kick-boxing,
Thai boxing, jujutsu and so on, and we suggest that you try
out a few places and decide what avenue you want to take.
Bournemouth Wado Ryu karate club is one of a number of Southern
Karate Wado Academy clubs in the UK, which is an alliance
of clubs in Dorset,
Wiltshire, Surrey
and Hampshire.

Peter Edwards 6th Dan is conducting a basic
introduction to the wooden sword on Sunday 28th
September, 10.30am till 1.00pm at Corin Pegden's club in

Peter will also do a session at the Bournemouth
club from 2pm-4pm at the church hall on the Saturday, 27th.
The club says a sad farewell to Milan and
Alenka who have now returned to the Czech Republic after
nearly three years training with the club.

(Please enter the new building which is to the left of the
main church. Sometimes it may appear dark in the halls as
if it is not open but please do check at the door.)
Tuesday: 8pm to 9pm
Thursday 8pm to 9.30pm
Please note we will be CLOSED on the following
dates due to courses, holidays and bookings made by the
church for the small room on Tuesdays. Please check regularly
as they are subject to change.
