Chris and Jules: Celebration and Devastation
Monday, 25 June 2007
Chris and Jules
Chris and Jules
Many, many congratulations to Chris and Jules on getting wed. Although the rain did keep pouring until late in the evening it was still a fantastic day at the Chewton Glen. You both looked great on the day. We were all behind you Chris on the speech, all the way.

After all the talk and comic-yet-serious suggestions about sneaking drink into the hotel seeing as we know it is pretty pricey, you both came up trumps with the FREE BAR. It was Angela's turn to drink so I drove and I saw the aftermath that a free bar does.

Hammond was hammered, Bushnell was bushed and Philips was just plain falling over. That is the devastation part of this post. More photos and stuff to come... You've all been warned!

The celebration part is obviously the newly web Mr and Mrs White. Best wishes to you both.

On another note, Miles Whitely has changed his name to Miles Brownley.

Honda Accord photo
Not mine
It is the turn of my Honda Accord Coupe to rest-in-pieces. Actually that is not strictly true but I have said farewell to that trusty stead.

So, after the Civic, the Prelude, the Accord Coupe comes the Accord saloon. OK, not the upward progression I wanted to maintain as I couldn't find a 2.3 or 2.4 model quick enough but at least it is in the same ballpark. Roll on the NSX, but I have a couple more Accord or Legend models in between if needs be.

Vic Young logoThanks to Vic and Darren and Vic Young Cars for sorting it all out smoothly. Morning flight from Southampton in to Newcastle, Metro and a well dodgy bus, Big Mac and another Metro to South Shields and by 10 o'clock I was driving away. Bought as seen. Well, I didn't actually see it before I wrote and handed the cheque over nevermind kick a tyre or two! Now that is trust and a trust-worthy dealer for ya.

House warming part 1
Sunday, 10 June 2007
Thanks for all the cards and bottles of wine. We had a nice evening drinking and eating, and me worrying about the old bar-b-que and the coals falling through.

Thanks to the person who closed the patio door. In the light of the next morning we could clearly see where my forehead and nose impacted the glass door and left grease marks. Niiice.

The fish have got some anti-bacterial treatment so hopefully the swollen fish will get better. Cheers for the diagnosis Louise. (Someone from Dorset Koi Keepers might be coming around to have a look and see if they can help)

Jess, did you get enough sweets then? They seem to go down well. I did start off cooking some spare ribs and forgot all about them. Only saw them sitting on the BBQ rack when I lifted the lid the next morning. We were starving as well at night and had to revert to the Haribos.

Don't worry for those people that didn't manage to take a decorative plate from the walls, they will be wrapped and handed out at the next weddings, birthdays and so on. You will not escape.

Free business cards and stuff
Thursday, 07 June 2007
OK, we know nothing is for free but Vista Print provide 'free' business cards and you just pay for P&P.

Quite handy and cheap if you avoid some of the add-ons they keep thrusting into your face when ordering, and go for the slow post option.

Godfather to Georgia Bluebell

Georgia Bluebell
The Godfather and daughter
Wow, I was made a godfather to Emma and Stuart's beautiful baby daughter on Sunday. A quick splash and dash at the church and now I have to keep an eye on Georgia Bluebell and ensure she keeps on the right path.

She was as good as gold on the day and afterwards. Blowing raspberries at the appropriate times in the ceremony.

It's not just birthdays you know. Hmmm, I better ask Angela when that is then and stick it into Outlook.

Moving home, why so heavy?

koi carp
Feeding the fish
It is amazing how much sh*t two people can accumulate through the years. I remember moving to our flat about 9 years ago and it only took a few trips with both our cars.

Time passes and stuff builds up. Not all junk mind, just bits of life.

Why are books so heavy? I supposed you are literally packing and lifting a solid block of wood, although it is probably true that wood is lighter as it has more air in its structure.

Must keep on packing and then feed the koi later. Fingers crossed that I don't kill the fish and turn the garden into a dump within a month!

New House

new homeGot confirmation from the solicitor that the house purchase has completed this morning. Woo hoo!

Now all that decorating to do. There's only so many times you can paint over the wallpaper.

Pity Rich and Jo have gone on holiday otherwise we could have shared a drink with our new neighbours.

Hairy landing at Bournemouth airport

Airplane image
Ssss--tttorrr--ppp!
We left Prague in 26 degrees of heat, which had been 33 earlier in the week, and arrived in Bournemouth amongst wind and rain.

What was scary though was the blooming landing. Having a window seat I could tell that we were already a fair way up the runway before we were close to touching down. Not a good sign. Once all tyres were on land the reverse thrust kicked in, water spraying everywhere.

I had the feeling that a lot of runway seemed to be passing underneath us and when the reverse thrust was so strong that it starting shuddering the plane I just began to see the lights that signalled the end of the runway coming into view. I thought, oh dear this could be tricky.

Luckily a final slam on the brakes brought it all to a sudden halt, with literally yards to spare. It was a tight turn to get the plane around and taxi towards the arrivals hut.

A round of applause went up and everyone was thankful for being OK despite all the wind and rain. Reminded me of our trip to Dublin which had just as adventurous landing but at least there were fire engines and ambulances ready and waiting.

Woo hoo, exchanged!

drink
Fancy a drink
We've exchanged on the house today. Woo hoo! Completion for June 1st.

Just celebrating the milestone with a homemade caipirinha-cum-mojito!

Caipito or Morinha?

Take a glass, squeeze in some segments of lime and drop them in. Add a couple of teaspoons of brown sugar. Take the end of a wooden chopstick (my own improvisation) and muddle the limes with the sugar. Add Cachaca to taste. Do a bit more muddling.

Drop in about 5 mint leaves. Do just enough stabbing of the mint leaves to release some flavour. Do not muddle the mint leaves otherwise it will break up too much. Found that out after the first attempt. Add some ice cubes and top up with Schweppes Soda Water.

Enjoy, responsibly.
