Gem Freeman - custom jewellery
Friday, 13 March 2009

Angela bought a nice bracelet from the Tits 4 tat event last night from someone called Gem Freeman. Angela said we would put a link to her web site after the show.

If you would like to commission a piece of custom jewellery or buy some hand crafted items then that is what Gem does. She is based in Bransgore, Dorset.

Parking woes and ideas

Parking in BournemouthGood to see some ideas being generated about parking in the area.

Bournemouth Echo article

Personally I would save make parking free for up to 3 or 4 hours. Plenty of time to do relaxed shopping and not having to chase the clock, but time to go to more shops etc as opposed to nipping in for an hour and just the one place.

I don't think it should be free all day as then the places could be taken up with workers, although I think that should be another issue to be dealt with so there are plenty of places just outside of town and not have too many residential restrictions. No point in making town centre parking free, for them all to be taken up by workers' cars and none left for shoppers to use.

Tits 4 Tat
Angela won a day of golf for 4 people at the Tits 4 Tat charity event in Poole last night and hosted by Tasty Marketing.

I can assure you that it had nothing with me (Datacenta Hosting) being a sponsor, honest. Not sure I have enough friends with free time during the week to play golf.

The event was to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care and I hope everyone had a fun time and well doen to everyone for their hard work.

Got my "green waste" bin
Wednesday, 11 March 2009

Bournemouth Council have finally got me onto their garden waste collection scheme.

Should also save me the trip to the Christchurch recycling centre to dump only a couple of bags off.

Wow, the garden is going to look a treat once my green fingers come back and I start hacking away at everything.

Strange financial times indeed

base rate
Stonking Interest Rate
My tracker mortgage is 0.51% below base. Base is now 0.5% after yesterday's anouncement by the Bank of England .

Can't wait to get my next letter from the mortgage company. Do I get money back now? Are they going to give me 0.01% interest on my mortgage as if it were a savings account? Very funny.

I should really use that saving and pay some capital off and not blow it on a 50 inch TV. So tempting though...

A fracas in Bournemouth
Wednesday, 18 February 2009

ImageGetting up this morning I was a bit shocked by the news snippet on Twitter that there had been a brawl between a couple of gangs outside my favourite Chinese restaurant in Bournemouth, Oriental City.

Bournemouth Echo ran a small piece on the brawl. Hopefully these are not wanabee idiot mofoes out to spoil things around here.

By night the police cordon and small tent by the entrance had gone and the car park was once full again and customers were inside.

British Telecom behaving like in the Nationwide advert
Tuesday, 10 February 2009

BT and DABS
What a right pair indeed
I get the distinct feeling that British Telecom are behaving just like the mortgage company in the Nationwide TV advert.

You know, the one where long-term customers get stiffed over and new customers get all the best deals.

Our company has been with BT for years with its Internet connection and I now get to see half-price or double-bandwidth offers all over the place. A quick phone call to our Account Managers just elicits nothing, nada, zilch. Now we have Dabs (owned by BT) trying to prise a sale from BT.

I don't care who does it, just give me a better deal on what I currently have. Now.

Bournemouth Parking annoyance
Saturday, 07 February 2009

Bournemouth Council better get its parking policies in good shape if they are not going to annoy the hell out of local workers and visitors. The newspapers seem to say that this is going to be a busy summer as people have decided to holiday in the UK due to the credit crunch.

The other week there was no parking at my office, so I normally head up Clarendon Road and usually there is a space even right at the very end before West Cliff Road. It was so busy that I had to park on West Cliff Road. I saw a sign saying even the parking on that main road was going to get restricted due to considerations for local amenities. WTF!

Just wait till the airshow. Parking will be a nightmare.

Bournemouth's Red Panda restaurant is closed
Friday, 06 February 2009

ImageCredit Crunch is hitting the restaurant scene in Bournemouth. It was lights out this week when the Red Panda Chinese Restaurant quietly disappeared and shuts down.

The whole group/chain must be affected as their website says it is "undergoing maintenance".

That dreaded iMax building has not had a good life since the beginning. I guess everybody wants to know when it will finally go.
