Ravenswood seems to have a good light-hearted approach to its strapline: Ravenswood - No Wimpy Wines. Many of the American wines I have had have always been a bit wimpy. This has been the best USA wine I have had so far. Not that I buy many and most are probably plain boring supermarket stock.
This Zinfandel was a smooth red that was more like a blend of Shiraz and Merlot, the spiciness was tamed by the smoothness.
