Jamie's Italian

Angel Building, 403 St John Street, Islington, London EC1V 4PL. Tel: 02034 359915

If you plan to eat here in the evening then I recommend taking a miner's lamp or a torch. It is dark in there and the orange lights with their menus that has text on pastel colour backgrounds just makes it so blinking hard to read.

Having said all that, I thought the service was very good. Overall the food was good. I probably didn't make the best choices but you can tell the effort behind it all.

I had the crispy squid for starters. Nice batter and spice to it. Good presentation. I would have loved a huge pile of the stuff, but that is probably me being greedy.

For my main it was a toss up between the Black Angel Spaghetti or the Crab & Squid Ink Risotto, but I went for the spaghetti in the end. I hadn't banked on the capers being so strong. Ended up like it was a spaghetti salad in a vinaigrette.

The Sicilian Cheesecake was a huge letdown. Too cold and no flavour whatsoever. Would have been better with a thicker crispier base. I guess the flavour was meant to come from lemon marmalade that got spooned over it, but that was just too sickly. Just didn't work for me.
