Just had a long enjoyable weekend in Guernsey.

I didn't realise how near it is. As the crow flies it is a similar distance to London and flying in a plane means the journey is pretty damn quick.

The duty free, yes, no duty, is cheaper on the plane than at Southampton Airport. We could have got two litre bottles of Gordon's Gin or Russian Standard Vodka for £10 each. Instead, on the way back I got a litre bottle of Hennessey XO for £95, where a 70cl bottle in the supermarkets here is £135. I've never bought anything so expensive, or an XO before so I will savour it when I finally get round to opening it. We also got two bottles of Mumm champagne for £16 each. Cannot complain, so you must remember to not buy anything at Soton airport.

We stayed at La Barbarie Hotel and found it really pleasant. We enjoyed the food there and one night I had a full on seafood platter. I would recommend it. Hotel and the food.

Got to see a friend of mine who used to go to the same school in Newton Aycliffe so many years back!

We took a visit to the underground wartime hospital. What a strange place. What even stranger people on the entrance and exit. I have been told they are twins. I don't get the feeling they get to speak to many people, if you know what I mean. The inside of the place is bleak and even more so for the poor souls that had to be there.

St Peter Port was OK. Lots of crooks and crannies to explore. Good range of shops. But beware, the shops are not open on Sunday generally. Even when it was summer holiday season when we went. If there is a big cruise liner with wealthy passengers they might open but for us plebs they stayed firmly shut.

I will definitely try and get back now I know it is such a short flight and when we booked it was pretty cheap at £60 as well.

I think Flybe were in danger of having to pay out for the delay so the pilot must have put his foot down as I felt odd on the way back thinking this does not feel like a normal relaxed journey.
