The Apartment in Newcastle upon Tyne is an excellent bar and restaurant firmly aimed at the top end of the market, although it is situated near the bottom end of the Bigg Market.

A very trendy and modern addition to the already pretty crowded nightlife in Newcastle but it still wins awards as a stand-out venue for drinking and eating. The music is not too in-ya-face and makes up a very good atmosphere. They have DJ's most nights and on the weekend they have musicians to play over the tunes to give it that semi-live vibe that a lot of places go in for.

Duncan Fisher The fine dining is also excellent. We went there with some friends for our wedding anniversary. There was a chilled bottle of Laurent Perrier Rose waiting for us, compliments of the owner Duncan Fisher. Not that everyone gets this treatment but being my best-man at my wedding helps.

I had the starter of different kinds of oysters which were presented in vodka shot glasses and in a shell. This got the usual looks from people who don't like seafood as much as I do.

The lamb and duck that me and Angela had were spot on, and everyone else seemed to enjoy theirs as well. I was a bit disappointed with my sweaty bits of cheese that I was hoping to enjoy with the red wine I had just ordered. The other desserts looked really nice compared to my more expensive cheese. I let Duncan know afterwards so things may have changed. The drinks range is very extensive so if you are feeling flush, then go and spend £1000+ on a bottle of champagne.

If you money doesn't stretch that far then go for the mojito like I do. A drink that hits the spot and rehydrates you at the same time! Their bottle beers are also great as there are many on the list that you don't normally see in the run of the mill pubs. Modello is a firm favourite of mine. They have a web site to keep you up to date on the latests information and promotions.
