Olympics - what a surprise

Details
Created: 06 August 2012

I have to admit that I was one of those moaning cynical lot being all gloom and doom ahead of the London Olympics, how we'd look like bafoons compared to the slickness of Beijin's opening ceremony and so on.

I was wrong. Quirky Britishness was the way to go. No need to compete on numbers.

The action has been red hot as well. The cycling, sailing, and rowing, then the gymnastics and the tennis. All go and the human side of the athletes, the tears and the joy is all very touching. The middle weekend was exhausting just watching.

Roll on this next week and fingers crossed for even more gold medals.

Hooray.

This last month has been costly with the car and house. Ouch indeed. Just means I need to squeeze the life out of a certain somebody for what is due.

Our Big Fat Far East Trip...

Details
Created: 04 May 2012

We recently spent just over two weeks in the Far East taking in both Hong Kong and Vietnam. Very much family orientated and really getting back to our "roots". We went back to my mother's island close to the Chinese mainland and we also went to Angela's home village in North Vietnam.

Oh yeah, I got a bad eye on the morning that we flew out of Heathrow. Conjunctivitis. Spent the first few days, including my birthday half-blind with some sort of scraping action going on with my eyelid and pupil. Not very nice indeed. At least I saw a doctor in the building next to the hotel as soon as I arrive and got onto the antibiotic eye-drops and gel.

Anyway, the whole journey was a tale of food and drink.

The sun is back, as are deck chairs

It's always a much more smilier place Bournemouth when the sun is out.

Here is the huge deck chair that Pimms UK put onto Bournemouth beach as some PR stunt.

Holiday in the Far East soon.

Have been putting off a big trip to the other side of the world for about three years now but that time is coming soon.

Am off to Hong Kong and then Vietnam. Lots of family things going on, a visit to my mum's island of Ap Chau, big gathering of the Shek clan, a visit to Angela's birthplace.

No doubt there will be lots of seafood photos, pho noodles and cold beers forthcoming!
