Met up with a couple of old school friends from my days at the Avenue Comprehensive (the site is now a Tesco Extra) in Newton Aycliffe. Darren I had seen every so often over the years anyway but Stefan Jose I hadn't seen since I left that provincial backwater in 1984, nearly 24 years on. Daft thing is, Stefan has been here in Bournemouth since '97, the year after we came down ourselves.

Balding heads and aching joints - we're all getting on! All that was missing was Scott Walker and it would have been a full house.

Unfortunately Uncle Chan has passed away

So soon after the Shek family reunion it was sad to hear that Uncle Chan, married to the eldest Shek sister, has just passed away.

I will be flying up to the North East this weekend to attend the funeral on Monday.

As a child, not that I was ever involved with the extended family to any great level (I was pretty rubbish at all that), I always remember the both of them together as being the elder statespeople of the group, quietly dignified at all times and well respected.
