Me and Angela went to this restaurant as it was one of our friend's surprise birthday party. It was a very interesting place. Goes back much further than it looks and we had one of the private dining areas with about 24 of us there. Next to our room was the Chef's Table which is another dining area but where the chef delivers a custom evening of food a drink specifically for your event.

The staff were very efficient and once we sat down after the chit chat it was all pretty much excellent. We could actually see into the kitchen area from where we sat and all we saw all night was a very well oiled machine. No fuss or noise came out of there. Are those reality kitchen shows a bit of a over dramatic affair then?

I had the mussels in tomato, chilli and vodka. There were two kicks, one from the chilli and the other from the vodka. I love mussels and could have done with 10 times as much. The sauce was nice enough to drink as soup once the plump mussels had gone. I used Angela's goats cheese ciabatta to mop more of the sauce up.

My main course of cod was very nice but I wasn't in the mood for mash. Funnily this was my third cod of the day! I had one at lunch, had a small piece of Angela's lunch and then it was this. This was booked a few weeks back and if I had remembered, I would have chosen something else at lunchtime.

The desserts got everybody's approval.

The mango panna cotta could have had a sharper mango zing to it for my liking but it was very smooth without being heavy. The hot chocolate brownies were thick and stodgy for those that like it that way. I think that is the only way they should be. The white chocolate and Baileys mousse also got the thumbs up but our fellow guest was just too stuffed from the earlier courses to contend with it.

What makes the place even more interesting is that they have a deli and do cookery courses as well. There's a lot more to it than meets the eye.
