Wagamama

Westover Road, Bournemouth.

Newly opened and just what Bournemouth needs. Wagamama brings modern Oriental food into the 21st century.

We have been to Wagamama before  in London, Dublin and Guildford so there were no real surprises as the brand is going global so the standards are expected to be similar.

We were lucky to be invited to one of their preview nights where we could have one main course, one side dish each plus a free drink and a bottle of water. Actually if you know one is opening in your area, go to their web site and contact them and ask to be put down for their preview night. You pay nothing but actually it is nice to leave a tip.

The interior design is very functional, straight lines, long bench type tables and seating. The lighting-cum-sound dampners do their job so even when the place is packed, it is not too noisy to be distracting and the lighting does not fill the place too much as with all that white paint it could become too bright.

Not a huge amount to say really. If you like Oriental food, you will like to try this. Get your face stuck into a big bowl of noodles in soup! The yaki udon is also good.

If you like your traditional Chinese restaurant, all sitting cosily around a table, with your starters, mains and desserts then this is not for you.

Service is brisk and there is always the risk of you still waiting for your dish whilst others might have finished. Just chill out.
