Don't go to this place.
I don't get annoyed at much in life but this place bugged me to the core after I left.
It was a cold Sunday night in March and we were strolling around town trying to decide on a place to eat in Cambridge. We had come into town to go to Thanh Binh Vietnamese Restaurant.
I saw the board advetising this place off the street in a small courtyard. I thought what the heck, if it is not on the main street then these types of places deserve a break now and again. Most of the other restaurants barely had one or two tables occupied.
Walked down the path into the place. No one around apart from about 5 members of staff.
We sat down and after the menus we decided what we were having. I told him what we wanted and then the tried to upsell everything. An extra sidedish. Another rice - no we have one. Another nan - no, the special tandoori comes with one.
Then it was during our meal that they turned the heating up. Warm air on my already sweaty head. I asked him to turn it off and he laughed whilst doing so.
Finally there was the extra "s/c £4" line on the bill. I asked what that was for. Service Charge.
In these credit crunch times and the fact they are down a side street I thought they might do better to actually give good customer service. No it seems. A bit of a Google search also shows many thers that have had a smilarly bad experience.
The irony is, I didn't think the food was that bad. The cauliflower bhaji could have been just as good as a main course curry. Tandoori chicken was nice and tender. The plain nan, light and crispy.
However, I would never go back and recommend that you do not go to.
The credit crunch should see these kinds of places close right down. I really hope so. Guess who will be laughing then.
