The two Chinese restaurants in the centre of Southampton serving dim sum that I have been to already were pretty average and do not compare to Ocean City but after a bit of searching I found Kam’s Palace.

I found a bit of a bargain hotel stay at the De Vere New Place, near Wickham, and on the return journey to Bournemouth we planned to come here.

Some mixed reviews on VT about the evening dinner but the dim sum general got an OK. It is quite a large purpose built Chinese pagoda building just off a roundabout.

I thought the beef cheung fun was nice as was the curried squid. The staples of har gau and sui mai were also OK.

We ordered the seafood ho fun after a bit of deliberation as it was £10, usually £7 to £8 is the norm for this. Although there was lots of it, with plump prawns and scallops, it was too band and had a cornflour kind of aftertaste.

If we get back another time, and I would go back, I may try their crispy noodles and if that is not up to scratch then I would definitely give that side of things a miss. The dim sum itself all seems fine.

I went for lunch one afternoon and thought I would treat myself with a plate of roast duck all to myself and Singapore noodles. This was a very greasy affair to wards the end. Some of the roast duck had been deep fried.
