Sula - Korean Restaurant

79-81 Kingston Road, New Malden, London KT3 3PB. Tel: 020 8336 0121

I am starting to get the hang of ordering at Korean restaurants, the main thing being not to order a starter as the main course and the FREE side dishes will fill you up!

New Malden has a string of Korean restaurants all dotted along this road or near abouts. I popped into this place on Christmas Eve late afternoon whilst waiting to pick my brother up from Kingston. There was already a large family party there so it was very lively and a lot of smoke in the air.

I picked up the menu and told myself not to order a start and not even to look. So hard to do, but it is the right thing to do, for me anyway, unless there is a group of people.

I wanted something warming as it was pretty chilly but wasn't minded for anything necessarily spicy, so I went for the back ribs soup with rice.

It came piping hot. I had more tender meat in that bowl than when I have paid £18 for a steak and this meal was only £7.90, and that was also with 5 free side dishes. Yes 5, not just 3 as normal in Bournemouth. All the side dishes were lovely but there was one that I wasn't too sure about, which I think might has been sliced fish cake, or at least that was what it reminded me of.

Korean eating is the way to go. Thai food is now so expensive in comparison.

Impressive range of side dishes.

Lovely meaty soup.
