33 Kingsland Road, Shoreditch.

I have had Vietnamese food before seeing as my wife and her family are from Vietnam but this was the first time I have been to an actual Vietnamese restaurant. Seeing as June 18th, 2005 was the hotest days so far this year, even the weather was authentic.

Don't know if the air conditioning wasn't working or if it couldn't cope. I know I couldn't cope and was on the verge of a personal meltdown situation if it hadn't been for my constant wafting of the menu, that I refused to give back.

The food was really nice and excellent value. Very, very fresh. It is a BYO place so come with your own wine/beers.

We all had a starter and a main course each and only ended up paying just over £10 per head. Not having to pay a big markup on alcohol helped with the price. I'm not sure they even charge for corkage but still plonk a few glasses and a bottle opener onto the table for you.

There were others on the road, but this place seemed a hell of a lot busier than the rest. Not sure what this means about the other places but I would definitely give them a try the next time we are in the area.
