Kolbeh Restaurant - Iranian, Persian Cuisine <Sorry, now shut>

17 Lansdowne Road, Bournemouth, BH1 1RZ.

This is a small restaurant just up from the Lansdowne roundabout, opposite the police station.

Eating at Kolbeh

I stumbled across their web site and had it in the back of mind my to visit soon. It was very intriguing to see how Persian (Iranian) cuisine differs.

We skipped the starters as we weren't that hungry otherwise some of their aubergine and chicken dishes would have been worth a try,. We went straight to tthe main courses.

I went for the CHELOW KABAB_e BARG va KOOBIDEH which is a dish made up of a long thin piece of lamb fillet that has been bashed and tenderised, plus there is also a kebab of fine minced lamb. Both were very nicely cooked and so beautifully tender. I was quite surprised and impressed. They were served with plenty of rice, some salad and grilled tomato.

They have only been open since the start of 2008. Good honest food it seems and a welcome addition to the Bournemouth restaurant scene. I liked it.

<update>

We have been back since, with a friend whose father is Iranian, and they enjoyed the food. As they have no alcohol licence we were able to pop round to the Threshers and bring some wine in. They didn't even charge corkage. Still wasn't very busy. Go there before it closes... </update>
