Fish hook

Don't get me started on their business card - why "Fish hook" and not "Fish Hook", why all the commas, why BEng (Hons) after his name?

Aside from all that, when we sat down, the aromas in the air definitely made you feel that you were going to enjoy things. Set just off the main high street this is a cosy little restaurant that has undergone a name change from Fish hoek at some point.

The menu was a manageable size but even then it took a while to decide what we were having.

I had the tempura soft shell crab. This was on a small salad with a fresh and zingy sweet chilli dressing. All very, very nice. Others had mussels and the tuna three ways. The tuna came in the shape of sashimi, tartare and a roll. Not a lot but a very delicate and pure taste.

For the main course I had the scallops, which was also a popular choice with everybody else. Succulent and sweet and came with a skewer of chorizo, king prawns and huss.

I was very surprised at how satisfied we were after the meal given how hungry we were beforehand.

It came in at around £56 per head. Only a couple of people had a coffee and dessert, but I think the fact that we had two bottles of Chablis and two of a New Zealand Pinot Noir that we asked to be chilled added to the price somewhat.

Chiswick is a little gem in West London for eating.
